From translator’s note: “Diana Taylor proposes using the word Olin in the place of performance in Spanish; the English term has no easy translation to español, where it becomes performance or something like acción. Writing about performance in the Americas, she suggests that native languages provide an alternative starting point, changing the connotations and implications of what performance can mean. "Olin, meaning movement in Náhuatl, seems a possible candidate," she writes. "Olin is the motor behind everything that happens in life, the repeated movement of the sun, stars, earth, and elements.” To think of Nahui Olin as performing her poetry, of making an art criticism centered in the body, of being a Modernist painter and aspiring actress destabilizes our neat universe of categories…”
